Widget overview
The News widget displays articles on the company's latest news. Each news item can be targeted according to the user's profile. It is possible to target their distribution by filtering the news based on their origin site, their term(s), adding a KQL request, but also by targeting the audience to display to your collaborators only the news that concern them!
User functionality
The News widget allows the user to stay informed about the latest news pushed by their company. By clicking on the news, they have access to the complete article, which opens in a new tab. They can see the name of the person who published the article as well as the publication date.
They can interact with the article in two different ways:
- They can like it by clicking on the thumbs-up icon (👍) ;
- They can copy the link to the article by clicking on the icon in the bottom right.
Use Cases
The widget News can be used to:
- Distribute company information to your employees ;
- Target the audience so that the right information is displayed to the right people.
Widget configuration
There are three categories of settings available for the widget:
- News sources
- News terms
- Advanced Settings
News sources
You can choose between two display:
- All websites: the widget displays news from all your SharePoint sites.
-
A list of websites: allows you to choose from all your sites (up to 25 are displayed - if more you will have to use the search bar) which one(s) you take as the source of news display. You can search through your sites and select those you want to use as a source. Once selected, the sites appear below the "Add Sites" button and can be easily removed by clicking the trash bin button (🗑️).
- A list of Jint articles : you can select specific Jint articles or tags
News terms
For SharePoint news, the categories allow you to filter the news to display:
You can filter the news based on the terms you assign to the articles.
Refer to the SharePoint documentation: Introduction to managed metadata
To do this, you define one or more term sets. The news surfaced will be those containing at least one term from each set.
For Jint articles, the same logic applies with the tags :
Advanced settings
Two parameters are adjustable here:
- Enable audience targeting:
Audience targeting allows you to display certain news using Microsoft's Modern Audiences. Modern Audiences is a Microsoft feature that offers to target your content to a specific population, using the user groups created in your Microsoft 365 solution.
You have the option to activate audience targeting in each of your News widget, to define if you want to display news only to the concerned audiences.
Audience targeting allows news to appear to a user only if they are part of the groups defined as the news' audience.
Refer to Microsoft's documentation on Modern Audiences for more information.
- Define KQL request:
Please note that the KQL query is added to the set of filters defined in this section. No validation of the KQL query is performed a priori.
Example of a KQL query:
author:"John Smith" OR author:"Jane Smith"
title:Actualité exemple NOT title:"Actualité exemple 2"
or a list of SharePoint terms : :"Londres""paris""limoge"
It is also possible to add a notion of time: this week ou today
