Why update a web part
We are constantly upgrading our web part to add or improve features or to correct bugs. In most cases, these updates are transparent to you and require no action on your part. The web parts just get better! 😊
However, in some cases, the evolutions are so important that we prefer to give you the freedom to update the web part at your own pace, leaving you time to validate that the new behavior fully matches your expectations; we then create a new "version" of the web part.
In this case, we deactivate the addition of the old version of the web part, but do not modify the web parts currently added to your pages. It is up to you to do this.
When a new version is made available, we recommend that you update your web parts as soon as possible. Indeed, the old version of the web part will reach the end of its life for a limited time, which will be one year, except in exceptional cases. A web part at end of life will be maintained so that your spaces continue to function, but no improvements will be made.
How to update a web part?
When a new version of a web part is available, a new section appears in the first position in the control panel:
During the update, we try as much as possible to take over the parameters that you have entered in the web part. If it is not possible to include all the parameters, a message listing the parameters concerned is displayed.
You can then confirm the update of the web part via the validation element "I wish to update the web part", then launch the operation by clicking on the button "Update".
The operation usually takes no more than a few seconds, during which the page is reloaded. The new version of the web part is now on your page! You can check the behavior of the web part in your page.
Undo the update of the web part
Updating the web part is a classic page modification operation in SharePoint and is therefore logged. If the update is not appropriate in the context of your page, you can undo the changes made by clicking on the SharePoint button "Discard changes" :
Your page will then return to the state before the last publication.
If you have saved your page and want to undo the update, you will have to find the version before the web part update in the version history of the SharePoint page.
