Presentation of the Webpart
The Search Filter Webpart is part of the Jint Search Webpart set! Jint Search allows you to build a custom search experience to fit your needs.
The presentation of the features and global use cases of Jint search is presented in the article Mozzaik365 Search Center
User functionality
The filter Webpart allows you to set up filter options for your Jint search center. It allows users to filter, refine their search to easily get to the right result.
-
Filter
The user can filter on the properties of the search results to narrow them down. You can provide the user with date, numeric, boolean or text filters
- Date filter: It is possible to filter in different ways on a date. Search for an exact date, search for a date below or above a given date or within a range
- Text filter : The text filter allows you to search for one or more character strings in a SharePoint property. The text filter will return results that contain at least one string. To enter multiple values, simply select the "List" option and separate the values with a comma",".
-
Term filter
The term filters allow you to filter directly on the metadata associated with the search results. Filters are available, grouped by term set.
-
Refining
The refinements allow the user to see only filter choices that have results, sorted by ascending order of results. Therefore, the values that concern the most results are proposed first.
Refining is a very powerful tool that allows you to considerably reduce the number of results returned by the search. Combining two or three refinement filters is usually enough to get your result.
When a value is selected in the refinement, all the refinements are updated with the new result.

Visual :
The Filter Webpart has two layouts automatically applied depending on the section in which you place the Webpart.
Horizontal layout
The horizontal layout is applied when the Webpart is placed in a full section column, a two-thirds section column or in mobile mode
This layout displays the filters horizontally. Filters that cannot be displayed due to a lack of space are displayed in a panel accessible from the "filter" button
Vertical layout
The vertical layout is applied when the Webpart is placed in a half section or a third section column. All the filters are then displayed in a column.
Add the Webpart
- Open the edit mode of the SharePoint page by clicking on edit at the top right of the page,
- At the desired location, select the "+" button to open the Webpart catalog,
- Search or pull down the catalog to select the "search filter" Webpart in the "Documents, Lists and Libraries" category,
- The Webpart is added to the desired location.
Setting up the Webpart
There are 3 categories of parameters available for the search filter Webpart:
- Connecting the Webpart
- Filter configuration
- Display option
Connecting the Webpart
The search filter Webpart works with the other search Webparts.
The connection is automatically made if only one Webpart "search bar" and "search result" exists on the page. If not, simply select the Webpart from the drop-down list.
In each Webpart, its ID is displayed in order to identify it in case you have several identical Webparts on the same page.
Filter configuration
You can choose the order of the filter types to prioritize them and make the most used and relevant filters more accessible.
You can add, modify and delete filters from the "Set up" button
The filters offered to users can be in three different formats:
- Property filters
- Filters on the term catalog
- Refining
-
Property filter
You can propose property filters to your users in the dedicated settings panel.
You have 7 pre-set filters: Date modified, Date created, Author, Contributor, File size, SharePoint site, File type that you can add in one click.
It is then possible to add custom filters:
- Use the "Add a property filter" button
- Enter the name of the filter as it will appear in the Webpart
- Enter the managed property of the SharePoint search engine to which you want to apply the filter.
- Enter the data type of the managed property. It can be of type Date, Numeric, Boolean or text
-
Configure terms
You can propose a choice of filters from your catalog of terms. The settings panel allows you to enter all the terms to be proposed to users.
Once you have selected the terms, simply click on the "Save" button to validate your selection.
The selected terms will be proposed as a tag to be selected, grouped by Term set. In the example below, we propose terms in the Departments and Theme sets that are proposed to users.

Configuring refinements
You can configure refinements from the dedicated panel.
You have 5 pre-set refinements available on all Microsoft 365 environments: Date modified, Date created, Contributor, File type, Terms.
You can add additional refinements:
- Use "Add a refinement".
- Define the name of the refinement to be displayed in the Webpart
- Enter the SharePoint managed property to be refined
- Specify the data type of the property. The data type must be correctly filled in for the refinement to work properly.
❗ Careful ❗
- Not just any property can be used for refining. Refining is performed by the Microsoft Search engine. To do this, the SharePoint search property must have the "Refinable" property.
More information about refining in Microsoft Search - To perform a refinement on a set of terms, you need to use the SharePoint search engine managed property linked to that set of terms.
