Component overview
This article describes the "Metadata Editor" Web Part which allows you to add data to the page and allows editing/displaying the page's metadata.
It is compatible with Text, Date, Yes/No, Choice and Taxonomies metadata types.
Add the component
- Open the edit mode of the SharePoint page by clicking on edit at the top right of the page,
- Open the component catalog by hovering the mouse over a desired location and select the "+" button,
- Search or scroll down in the catalog to select the Web Part "Metadata editor",
- The component is added to the desired location.
Web Part component options
- When the page is in display mode, it can display/or not display the metadata values. It can therefore show the user the tags associated with the page in a section, or it can only be used for editing the properties.
- In administrator mode, when editing the page. It allows the complete parameterization of the component and the edition of the metadata.
- In administrator mode, when editing the page. It allows only the edition of the metadata.
- Display the component: This allows not to display the component "Metadata editor" in reading mode.
How to use it
Once the component has been set up: - Check "Contributor mode" in the Web Part properties panel to switch to contributor mode. This operation is very practical when using page templates with our contribution assistance component. - The parameterization is done only once and the users only have to enter the values.
- Change the title of the Web Part directly in the component. If not specified, no title will be displayed.
- Add/remove one or more properties to be managed and displayed by the component. Specify values for each of them if necessary.
- It is possible to reorder the metadata for display.
- By unchecking the "Display component" parameter in the configuration panel, the component will no longer be displayed when the page is not in edit mode.
When the parameters are not filled in, the Web Part will not be displayed on the page in display mode. The metadata must exist in the list of pages of the site. The internal names of the metadata must not contain a "_". It is good practice to have internal metadata names in CamelCase format, without spaces or special characters in SharePoint.
Adding the metadata
When selecting taxonomy metadata, it is possible to add new values directly in the component. If the user is at least a contributor on the site and the field is marked as open, then a search bar will be displayed when selecting values. The user can then enter the value he wants to add. If it exists, he will see it and can simply select it. If it doesn't exist, he can create it.
