How to use this component
To use this feature, simply go to the action bar located at the top of the SharePoint page, then click on the button titled Copy to another site. This action initiates the process of duplicating the current page to another SharePoint site.
A dedicated button is thus added to the action bars of SharePoint pages. This button offers the ability to quickly and easily copy the current page to another SharePoint site. This feature is particularly useful for sharing content between different SharePoint environments.
For example, it allows you to easily transfer news created for a group to a subsidiary's intranet, thereby facilitating the dissemination of important information within different branches of the organization.
When the user clicks this button, a side panel appears on the right side of the screen. This panel prompts you to enter the exact URL of the SharePoint site to which the page should be copied. After providing this information, simply click the copy button to start transferring the page.
To make this operation even more intuitive and secure, several aids are integrated into this panel:
- If the entered URL does not correspond to any SharePoint site the user has access to, an alert message is displayed immediately to inform them, thus preventing any destination errors.
- When the page to be copied already exists on the target site, the copy button label changes to display "Overwrite and copy". This clear indication allows the user not to overwrite an existing page inadvertently, giving them the option to confirm or cancel the operation.
- The panel also offers a list of sites to which copies have already been made from the current site. This feature allows the user to quickly select a destination without having to retype the URL manually, which significantly speeds up the copying process.
It is important to note that once the page is copied to another site, it is not automatically published. This gives the user the opportunity to make changes or adjustments before deciding to officially publish it on the target site, thus offering full control over the final content.
