Audience overview
What is an Audience?
An Audience is a Microsoft notion that defines the population targeted by a content. The content can be anything that is created, shared, shown, and on which you managed the access. The target population is defined by an Entra ID group.
When to use Audience for News?
When the contributor wants to target the news items to a specific user audience on the SharePoint site.
Why is it useful?
It allows the contributor to choose which user groups will have the privilege to view specific content. Content targeting helps to improve the user experience of the site by reducing redundant information and providing content that everyone needs.
NOTE: This feature does not prohibit access to the specific content, but rather assigns the privilege to some of the user groups. Meaning, the rest of the organization may find the information of the content in other means if needed.
Microsoft Entra ID
What is Entra ID ?
Entra ID is the Microsoft 365 identity service that provides single sign-on, multifactor authentication and conditional access to guard against cybersecurity attacks. When you create a SharePoint site, a Microsoft 365 group will automatically be created where you can allow user access to the site. The created groups are replicated in Entra ID groups.
In All groups, you can find the information of all user identities and the groups who are authorized to organize the enterprise. Go to Read about Microsoft Entra ID for more detail.
