The Jint News component allows filtering the display of news based on managed metadata (SharePoint term store). This setup is done in several steps on the SharePoint side before being activated in the component configurator.
This article details the entire process, from creating the terms to using them in the component.
Prerequisites
You must have Site Administrator rights on the relevant SharePoint site, as well as access to the Term Store in the SharePoint admin center.
1. Create Terms in the Term Store
- Click the gear icon ⚙️ at the top right of your SharePoint site.
- Click Site information, then View all site settings.
- Click Term store management.
In the term store:
- Create a term group.
- Within this group, create a term set.
- Add the terms you want to use to categorize your news (e.g., HR, Strategy, IT, Communication…).

2. Create a Site Column Based on These Terms
- From Site Settings, click Site columns, then Create.
- Give your column a name (e.g., News Category).
- Under Column type, select Managed Metadata.
- In the settings, select the term set you just created.
- Check Allow multiple values if you want to associate multiple terms with the same news item.
- Save the column.

3. Add the Column to the Pages Library
- Click the gear icon ⚙️, then Site contents.
- Open the Site Pages library.
- Go to Library settings.
- Click Add from existing site columns.
- Select the column created in the previous step, then save.

4. Tag News Items with the Terms
- From Site contents → Site Pages, select a news item.
- Click Properties.
- In the column you added, select the term(s) to associate with this news item.
Repeat this process for each relevant news item.
💡 If the terms do not appear immediately in the properties, force a site reindexing (see section below).

5. Configure Filtering in the Jint News Component
- Go to the page containing the Jint News component.
- Open the component configurator.
- In the filtering by terms/tags options, select the terms configured in step 1.
The component will then display only the news items associated with those terms.
Appendix – Forcing Site Reindexing
If the terms or tagged news items do not appear in the component, reindexing may be necessary:
- Click the gear icon ⚙️, then Site information.
- Click View all site settings.
- Under the Search section, click Offline availability and search.
- Click Reindex site, select a reason, then click OK.
⚠️ Reindexing can take several hours. Changes will take effect once indexing is complete.
📞 If you encounter difficulties during this setup, do not hesitate to contact Jint Support.
