This guide provides all the necessary steps for administrators to install and configure the Jint Newsletter Studio feature.
Who is this guide for?
This process requires intervention from several administrator roles. Ensure the person responsible for each step is available.
- SharePoint Administrator
- Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) Administrator
- Security Administrator
Step 1: Prerequisites
❗Crucial: Before proceeding, you must have the Unified Experience enabled and the Contribution Center installed. Newsletter Studio will not function without them.
Step 2: Grant SharePoint Permissions
- Required Role: SharePoint Administrator
These permissions allow Newsletter Studio to function within your SharePoint environment, such as fetching news articles.
- Navigate to your SharePoint Admin Center.
- In the left-hand menu, go to Advanced > API access.
- Under the "Pending requests" section, you will see requests for Jint Mailing.
- Select and Approve each pending request one by one.
Step 3: Grant API Access
- Required Role: Entra ID Administrator
These permissions allow the Newsletter Studio application to securely access the necessary Microsoft 365 services.
- Open the following consent link: Jint Mailing Application Consent Link
- A permission request window will appear. Review the requested permissions.
- Click Accept to grant consent for your organization.
Step 4: Whitelist the Sending Address
- Required Role: Security Administrator
This step is essential to ensure that emails sent from Newsletter Studio are not blocked by your organization's spam filters and are successfully delivered to all users.
-
Address to whitelist:
newsletter@jint.co
About the Sending Address
All newsletters are sent from the technical address newsletter@jint.co to ensure maximum deliverability and compliance. While content creators can choose a sender's display name (e.g., "Internal Communications" or an employee's name), the actual sending address will remain the one above.
Procedure:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- From the left navigation, click
Show all, then go to Admin centers > Security. This will open Microsoft Defender. - In Microsoft Defender, navigate the menu:
Email & Collaboration > Policies & Rules > Threat Policies > Anti-spam. - Click on the Anti-spam inbound policy (Default) to open its settings panel.
- In the panel, find the "Allowed and blocked senders and domains" section and click Edit allowed and blocked senders and domains.
- Under the "Allowed" section, click on Manage sender(s).
- Add the email address
newsletter@jint.coand save the sender. - Click Save at the bottom of the panel to apply the policy update.

Step 5: Ensure Users Have Access
- Required Role: Jint Administrator
The final step is to grant specific users or groups permission to use Newsletter Studio. Access to Newsletter Studio is managed through the permissions of the Contribution Center.
To assign access, please refer to the "Governance" section of the Jint Contribution Center
documentation, where you can define which users are authorized to create and manage newsletters.
Configuration Complete
Newsletter Studio is now installed and configured. You can inform your content creators that they can begin building and sending newsletters from the Contribution Center.
Technical Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Why do we need to approve API permissions in both SharePoint and Entra ID?
A: These two sets of permissions serve different purposes. SharePoint permissions allow Newsletter Studio to access SharePoint-specific content, like news articles. Entra ID permissions (Microsoft Graph API) are broader, allowing the application to read user profiles and group memberships for targeting recipients, and to send email on behalf of a user.
Q: What happens if we don't whitelist the newsletter@jint.co address?
A: Your newsletters may suffer from poor deliverability. Emails could be automatically marked as spam, sent to users' junk folders, or even blocked entirely by Microsoft's security filters before they reach the inbox.
Q: Can we change the sending address from newsletter@jint.co to a company address (e.g., comms@mycompany.com)? A: No. The technical sending address is fixed to ensure high deliverability and manage bounce-backs effectively through our managed service. However, you can customize the sender's display name to be any user in your directory, which is what recipients will see in the "From" field in their email client.
Q: We've completed all the steps, but our users can't find Newsletter Studio. What's wrong? A: Please check the following:
- Prerequisites: Confirm that both the Unified Experience and the Contribution Center are installed and running correctly.
- License: Ensure that the Newsletter Studio premium feature is included in your organization's Jint plan.
- User Access (Step 5): Verify that the user has been granted permission to access Newsletter Studio via the Contribution Center's governance settings.
Q: How well are newsletters supported in the classic desktop version of Outlook?
A: We have made specific improvements for the classic Outlook desktop client. However, this older client has known rendering limitations and is being phased out by Microsoft. For the best and most reliable viewing experience, we recommend using the new Outlook, the web version (OWA), or mobile Outlook apps.
