The Unified Experience alert displays a message at the top of the notifications panel on all SharePoint sites where Jint adds its bar. Your employees see it as soon as they open the panel, regardless of the site they are on.
This article describes what your employees see, then explains how to configure the alert in Jint Portal: enabling it, setting the text, link, and color.

1. Alert overview
The alert is a banner pinned to the top of the notifications panel, which your employees open from the bell icon in the Unified Experience bar. It displays your message and, if you want, a link to a page of your choice.
⚠ The alert is a fixed banner that you enable and disable yourself. It is independent of the notifications you send to your employees.
Use cases
- Notify users of scheduled IT maintenance.
- Announce an outage or incident affecting the intranet.
- Remind everyone in the company of important information.
- Redirect users to a details page using the link.
2. Accessing the settings in Jint Portal
The settings are configured in Jint Portal. Your account must have the Global Administrator or Unified Experience role.
- Sign in to Jint Portal.
- In the menu, open SharePoint, then Unified Experience.
- Click the Alert tab.
The Unified Experience page has seven tabs: Activation, Alert, Search, News, Events, Navigation, and Viva Engage.
3. Enabling the alert
At the top of the tab, the Show an alert toggle displays the alert at the top of the notifications panel on all sites.
| Setting | Values | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Show an alert | Enabled / Disabled | Disabled |
As long as this toggle is disabled, your employees do not see any alert. There can only be one alert at a time: it applies to all your sites.
4. Configuring the alert
The text and link are configured in the Alert tab. The color is configured in the Theme menu.
4.1 Text and link
| Setting | Values | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Alert text | The message to display, for example, “Scheduled IT maintenance on 06/28 from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM” | Blank |
| Link URL | A web address, for example, https://contoso.sharepoint.com/...
|
Blank |
- Alert text: Enter the message your employees should read.
- Link URL: This field is optional. Enter a URL to make the alert link to a details page. The alert then displays a clickable Learn more label. Clicking it opens the page in the same browser tab.
4.2 Alert color
The alert color is part of your Unified Experience theme.
- In the Jint Portal menu, open SharePoint, then Theme.
- On the Library tab, click Edit on the desired theme, or click Create a theme.
- In the Settings panel, click the Hub tab.
- In the Colors section, enter a HEX code in the Alert color field, for example,
#3489EB. - Click Save.
| Setting | Values | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Alert color | A HEX color code | "Alert color" defined in your theme |
⚠ A saved theme can take up to 5 minutes to appear on your SharePoint pages. The preview in the editing screen is immediate.
💡 The theme must be applied to your sites, either across the entire tenant or site by site, from the Assignment tab in the Theme menu.
4.3 Saving your changes
Click Save at the bottom of the Alert tab to apply your settings. Cancel discards your changes. Each Unified Experience tab is saved independently of the others.
5. What your employees see
Each setting has a direct effect on the notifications panel.
| Setting | Effect for your employees |
|---|---|
| Show an alert | The banner appears at the top of the notifications panel on all sites, only when the toggle is enabled. |
| Alert text | The message appears in the banner. |
| Link URL | The Learn more label links to the entered address in the same tab. |
| Alert color | The banner uses the color selected in the theme. |
6. Best practices
Write a short message.
Your employees read the alert at a glance. Include the essentials (what and when) and put the details on the linked page.
Reserve the alert for important information.
An alert that is always displayed eventually stops being read. Reserve it for information that concerns everyone and limit its frequency.
Check the display after saving.
Open the notifications panel with an employee account to check the message, color, and link. If you have just changed the color, wait up to 5 minutes.
Disable the alert when it is no longer useful.
Set the Show an alert toggle to disabled as soon as the information is outdated, then click Save.
